A Successful 2014 for Expom

Expom can classify 2014 as exceptionally successful. In addition to numerous investments in machinery, completions of new orders, and participations in fairs, we experienced lots of nice events and were recognized by many distinctions, due to which this year can be considered fruitful.

New investments

Expom is a company with high growth dynamics, where 98 per cent of production is exported. For this reason investments are gradually made in the machinery park and plant modernization. The previous year’s changes in the company are a continuation of a plan started in 2013 to modernize it in the amount of nearly 1.5 million EUR. Investments last year included two overhead cranes with lifting capacity of 20 tonnes, which are the largest handling equipment purchased by the company in its history to date. The increase in production was largely influenced by the purchase of a modern HAAS EC-1600 Machining Centre. This machine allows for the quick and precise fabrication of complex steel parts. In our part of Europe, the machine model is very unique, which makes the offer of the company from Kurzętnik with a 63-year-old tradition very professional.

Satisfied clients

2014 also included lots of positive feedback from our clients about completed orders. We realized a number of spectacular projects, such as a large-size HSC 700 marine crane weighing 50 tonnes, with a maximum operating capacity of nearly 20 tonnes and 34 meter reach, made entirely in our Kurzętnik factory. During the first two months of the year, we made for one of our major foreign partners in Germany two of the largest and heaviest welded structures in Expom S.A.’s history to date, weighing approx. 50 tonnes each and measuring approx. 6.7 x 6.1 x 3.5 m. Also worth mentioning is the Knuckleboom articulating offshore crane, with a 10 tonne lifting capacity and an arm length of 13 meters characterized by a distinctive two-piece construction, which left the confines of the factory walls on a Scandinavian client’s order. During 2014 Expom gained six new clients, which brought the total number of company contractors to twenty. The diverse and constantly growing order portfolio is for the company's board the best proof of the brand’s growing recognition on the international market in this industry. Our priorities are the production of a highly processed final product, growth of our client portfolio, and consistent investment in Expom S.A. staff and infrastructure.

Minister of Economy Visit

An event that was next to impossible to ignore was the visit of the Minister of Economy, Janusz Piechociński, to the company's headquarters in Kurzętnik. The goal of the visit was to discuss opportunities for further cooperation with the marine industry and future of the energy market in Poland. The Minister had the opportunity to view our modern machine park and the recently produced HSCT 350 telescopic crane weighing 32 tonnes. - Today Expom is one of the most modern companies in the region, utilizing the most advanced technologies, thanks to which nearly 100 percent of production is exported. I am pleased that the company has its share of great trade dynamics on such demanding Western markets - said Deputy Prime Minister Janusz Piechociński during the meeting and emphasized the importance of the company in building Poland’s image as a country having innovative and valuable export capital.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Over the past year Expom did not forget about supporting the local community and interesting initiatives. Already at the beginning of 2014, the company signed a sponsorship deal with the local sports club Zamek Kurzętnik, thanks to which talented young athletes could continue to develop their passions. The event which served to integrate all Kurzętnik residents were the Kurzętnik Commune Days and Expom Days, during which Sylwia Grzeszczak performed.

Around 8000 people participated in these summer events. The "Scientific Picnic Under the Stars" was also an attraction, during which one could admire a model of the solar system.

Distinctions and awards

Expom S.A. is one of the largest companies in the region, which is why our work does not go unnoticed. We are pleased that the hard work of all our employees is noticed and awarded. During the last ceremonial Kurzętnik Commune Council Session on November 7, Bronze Merit Badges were awarded. Honoured with this state distinction was Rafał Domżalski, Expom President of the Board. It was a great honour for the entire company team. Expom S.A. was also awarded in the Business Gazelles (Gazele Biznesu) ranking, which is a list of the most dynamically developing small and medium-sized enterprises. The distinction is proof of the appreciation and trust in the company from Kurzętnik.

Another knuckleboom crane leaves Expom SA factory

Expom SA manufactured knuckleboom type crane at the order of a customer from Norway. The cooperation of companies resulted in the implementation of innovative technological solutions. Due to special needs of the Employer, Expom engineers applied latest anti-corrosion protections.

The new knuckleboom crane manufactured by engineers from Kurzętnik is smaller than its predecessors. However, it distinguishes itself with special anti-corrosion and overloading protections, which is very important with respect to constant improvement of safety which is an absolute priority for engineering staff from Expom. The unit is also equipped with innovative remote control system and a number of devices boosting operation comfort. Very high requirements regarding anti-corrosion protection are also worth mentioning. The application of a few-layer varnish coat was possible to be done in Expom owing to the experience of staff and the technologies which the leader from Kurzętnik has at its disposal. The crane is equipped with power hydraulics and electrical systems which enable efficient functioning even in extreme conditions, proven with a certificate of international associations.

Apart from the crane steel structure and equipping it with complex control systems, the company gave access to its own dynamic test tower in which specialist tests are conducted under the supervision of international inspectors. Each stage of tests must be in compliance with the requirements of classification associations DNV, ABS, Lloyd, PRS, RMRS, RINA.

All parties to the contract interested in the project participated in the tests of this unit. The performed tests were aimed at the objective assessment of the offshore crane and the confirmation of the execution in accordance with the international offshore standard.

Knuckleboom with full quality and acceptance documentation will go to Norway, where it will be installed on a vessel. This is another crane of this type which will be sent from Kurzętnik to Scandinavia.
